A 20-year-old BA (first year) student was injured when a group of youths attacked and shot at him following a row over cheating material in the final graduation examination at Guru Nanak College here on Wednesday.
Harjit Singh of Nidhan Wala village came to the college to appear in the final examination of English.
During the examination, someone from outside threw a chit of answers in the examination hall to help Harjit Singh, but it came into the hands of another student Gurpreet Singh alias Gora. When Harjit demanded the slip from him, Gora instead of giving him threw it outside the hall.
The duo first entered into a verbal duel in the examination hall. Later, they both called their supporters and fought with each other.
One of Gora’s supporters allegedly opened fire at Harjit, which first hit him in his arm and then the chest. The police reached the spot and took the injured youth to the district hospital, from where he was referred to a Ludhiana hospital as his condition was critical.
Preliminary investigations revealed that both groups had earlier also clashed with each other over some disputes.
SHO of Moga City-I police station Gurpreet Singh said the police had recorded the statement of the injured youth.
Sources say the police have arrested Gurpreet Singh Gora, but the cops were yet to confirm.
