Shahkot (Jalandhar), May 9
Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Singh Badal on Wednesday said since Congress candidate Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia had been booked under non-bailable offences and was scheduled to appear before the SDM, Shahkot, on Thursday, he should either get bail first or be arrested.
Interacting with the media on the sidelines of first party rally in favour of its candidate Naib Singh Kohar prior to his filing papers on Wednesday, Sukhbir alleged that the Congress was misusing power by shielding Laddi.
On PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar’s stand that there should be one standard procedure for arrest after lodging of FIRs and that even Sukhbir and his party men could be arrested, Sukhbir said, “Let them arrest us. We are not stopping them. In any case, they cannot equate a looter with a person holding a democratic fight as we did. Their candidate is charged with looting the state’s property.”
Speaking in favour of SHO, Mehatpur, Inspector Parminder Singh Bajwa, he said, “It was the same SHO who was given DGP’s commendation disc a few months back by the same SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, who is now accusing him of indiscipline. The Congress is trying to browbeat even the police officers. How can the district officers seek transfer of the SHO appointed by the ECI? The officers have begun speaking the language of the government.”
Sukhbir said it was clear that money had changed hands in the award of the party ticket to Laddi. “There can be no other reason for the stoic silence of the Congress high command as well as Rahul Gandhi on this issue,” he said.
