Chandigarh, May 9
Not satisfied with rhetoric from the government regarding their demands, more than 200 farmer outfits under the aegis of the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee (AIKSCC) will gather at all district headquarters in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
The day also coincides with the 160th anniversary of the First War of Independence, 857. Dr Darshan Pal, organising secretary of the Bharti Kisan Union (Dakunda) and a working committee member of the AIKSCC, said a resolution on the Farmers Freedom from Indebtedness Bill-2018 and Farmers’ Right to Guaranteed Remunerative Minimum Support Price for Agricultural Commodities Bill-2018 would be signed by thousands of farmers.
These would be presented to the Chairperson of the Rajya Sabha and Speaker of the Lok Sabha urging them to call a special session of Parliament to pass private member Bills to fulfil their demands. A signature campaign was underway in the rural areas across the country for the Bills for which the drafting was in layman terms to remove any ambiguities that cropped up in legalese, he added.
Many Opposition parties and some NDA supporters gave their support to the Bills on April 25 and they had been presented to the Parliament secretariat, too, he said.
