Chandigarh, May 10
The state government has identified 3.26 lakh marginal farmers for debt relief in May to complete farm loan relief to 10.25 lakh families before November.
Disclosing details of the progress of the ongoing scheme, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Thursday directed officials to hold tehsil-level functions to expedite relief disbursement among the beneficiaries. Ministers and MLAs will hand over the loan waiver certificates in their constituencies.
In the next phase, farmers who had availed crop loans from public sector banks and other commercial banks would be covered.
The Finance Department was procuring data to ascertain the eligibility of the beneficiaries, he added.
Once the data is in place, the loan amount would be released to such banks as the government wanted to complete the scheme by October 31, 2018, he added.
The CM noted that debt relief of Rs 999.97 lakh to 2.02 lakh marginal farmers of cooperative institutions had been released so far. — TNS
