Two married couples were killed on the spot in two separate road accidents in and around Phagwara on Wednesday.
In the first accident, a motorcycle-borne couple — Baldev Raj of Ucha-Ladhana village near Banga and his wife Rupinder Kaur — was killed on the spot when their bike collided with an Army water Canter near Burj-Kandhari village on the Phagwara-Banga road on Wednesday morning.
The Mehli police have registered a case and handed over the bodies to the family after conducting post-mortem examination at Banga hospital.
In the second road mishap, a Jalandhar couple, Manmeet Singh (56) and his wife Harinder Kaur (50), was killed on the spot when their car rammed into a Canter near Kanshi Nagar Phagwara on the national highway on Wednesday.
The police have registered a case under Section 304A/283/427 of the IPC, impounded the Canter and arrested the Canter driver Gursewak Singh. The bodies were handed over to the family after autopsy at Civil Hospital, Phagwara.
