Voices for justice are being raised in support of Harjit Masih (29), the lone person who had managed to flee the ISIS following his abduction along with 39 other Indians, who were killed in Mosul (Iraq).
A day after the Punjab Cabinet approved financial assistance and government jobs on compassionate grounds to next of kin of the 27 persons from Punjab, who were among those killed in Iraq, a similar compensation has been sought for Masih.
Seeking a government job on compassionate grounds and withdrawal of a case of human trafficking against Masih, Jalandhar-based Lok Shakti Masih Bal Welfare Society has petitioned to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh. The CMO has marked the case to the Department of Rehabilitation and the Home Department for necessary action.
“While Masih had been maintaining for the last three years that all other Indians had been killed, it was only recently that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj informed Parliament that the Indian workers had been killed. He was not only harassed but also booked for human trafficking. The government should compensate him,” said Yunus Masih, general secretary of the society.
